The influence of Western powers on various aspects of life in the Philippines is undeniable, and the way this has impacted music, lifestyle, and the overall sense of community is profound. Yet, there’s an opportunity to reshape how we embrace this reality. The so-called Philippines are heavily bombarded by Western rhetoric and ideas that are forced onto us through our educational systems, the Constitution, Religion/Spiritual belief, the western kind of development, the style of government

Der Vortrag beleuchtet die Verflechtung von Sprache, Kultur und Identität im Kontext der sogenannten Philippinen. Der Einfluss westlicher Machtverhältnisse durchdringt zentrale Lebensbereiche und prägt Musik, Alltagspraktiken und Formen von Gemeinschaft. Zugleich wird die Möglichkeit einer gegenhegemonialen Aneignung dieser Bedingungen aufgezeigt. Die sogenannten Philippinen sind stark von westlicher Rhetorik und Ideen geprägt, die über Bildungssystem, Verfassung, Religion bzw. spirituelle Überzeugungen, westliche Entwicklungsmodelle und Regierungsformen vermittelt und durchgesetzt werden.
Schwerpunkte:
- Dekolonisierung im Kontext der sogenannten Philippinen
- Widerstand gegen den „Krieg gegen Drogen“ unter dem Duterte-Regime
- Anti-Bergbau-Kampagnen
- Dezentrale und selbstverwaltete erneuerbare Energie als Gegenmodell
- Praktiken von Solidarität und gegenseitige Hilfe während der Pandemie
- Einblicke in die Anti-Korruptionsproteste vom 21. September 2026
